Fecal Analysis

Fecal analysis in animals is a simple yet valuable diagnostic tool that helps detect parasites, inflammation, and disorders of the digestive system. What does fecal analysis include?
- Macroscopic Evaluation
- Color, consistency, and odor, presence of mucus or blood
- Presence of foreign material, undigested food, or worms
- Assessment of bowel movement frequency and quality (based on patient history)
- Microscopic Analysis
Performed on a stool sample using specialized techniques (direct smear or flotation methods) to detect parasites, such as Giardia spp. and Coccidia.
- Additional Tests / Rapid Diagnostics
- Giardia Antigen Test
- Parvovirus Test (especially in cases of hemorrhagic gastroenteritis)
- Coronavirus (CCV) or Rotavirus (in young animals with diarrhea)
- Cryptosporidium spp. (particularly in immunocompromised patients)
- Fecal Culture (selected cases)
Performed when bacterial infection is suspected (e.g., Salmonella, Campylobacter).
May be accompanied by antibiotic susceptibility testing, if needed.
