Endoscopy

Endoscopy is the use of optical devices that provide visual access to the interior of the body, offering high-quality, magnified images of tissues and organs. Using flexible endoscopes, foreign bodies can be removed and tissue samples can be collected from the digestive and respiratory systems, often without the need for open surgery. These procedures are performed through natural orifices or small incisions (minimally invasive surgery), resulting in reduced tissue trauma, less intraoperative and postoperative pain, faster recovery, and lower infection rates.
At PAWsitive Vet Care’s Endoscopy Department, we diagnose and treat conditions affecting various systems, including:
Digestive system:
- Ingestion of foreign bodies (in the stomach or esophagus)
- Chronic gastrointestinal disorders (vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss)
- Gastritis, ulcers, neoplasms
- Mucosal biopsy sampling (e.g. for the diagnosis of inflammatory or neoplastic conditions)
Respiratory system:
- Rhinitis, chronic cough, hemoptysis
- Foreign bodies in the nasal cavity or trachea
- Bronchoscopy for examination of the trachea and lungs (especially in cases of chronic or persistent cough)
- Collection of fluid or cellular samples from the respiratory tract
Otoscopy:
- Examination of the external and middle ear (in cases of recurrent otitis, polyps, growths)
- Cleaning and/or removal of foreign bodies from the ear canal
Urinary and reproductive system:
- Cystoscopy (examination of the urinary bladder – stones, polyps, growths)
- Examination of the vagina and uterus (mainly in female animals with reproductive disorders)
Other applications:
- Arthroscopy (for diagnostic purposes in joints)
- Laparoscopy (for minimally invasive procedures – e.g. ovariohysterectomy)
- Thoracoscopy (for conditions of the thoracic cavity)
